Berkshire off to a winning start

88 run victory over Cornwall
Berkshire under 10 boys got off to a cracking start at Taunton. After a couple of astroturf practice matches in damp conditions the teams agreed to play a 25 over festival match on grass.
Berkshire got off to a poor start, losing 3 wickets for 32 in the first 7 overs before the customary recovery by the resilient middle order - on this occasion, a combination of Jimbo Isbell, Connor Lamsdale and Sam Smith. Jimbo and Connor put on 72 runs for the fourth wicket which fell when Jimbo was dismissed for 41 in the 18th over. This brought Connor (39 not out) and Sam Smith (16 not out) together for the last 7 overs, during which they added 53 runs, taking the score to a respectable 157 for 4 at the end of 25 overs.
This looked a tough task for Cornwall and so it proved. Berkshire used nine bowlers in restricting Cornwall to 69 for 4 in their 25 overs, with spinners Connor and Max Meader taking one wicket apiece.
Overall a very satisfactory start in the competition for Berkshire, who looked in total command for most of the match, using their well tested pressure techniques to offer Cornwall no opportunities to escape from a defeat by 88 runs.
