Women lose title decider to Middlesex

By Dave Wright

But they still secure the second promotion spot

Berkshire Women were left heartbroken after losing their ECB Women's County Championship Division 2 title decider with Middlesex by 20 runs at Mill Hill School.
They did extremely well to bowl out their hosts for 166 with Phoebe Graham and Lissy MacLeod (pictured) each taking three wickets, while there were two for Lauren Bell and one for Sophie Day, with Ellen Watson also securing a run-out.
Berkshire, defending an unbeaten record, lost Day and Sherisa Gumbs cheaply, but Emily Cunningham, with 43, and skipper MacLeod, 42, lifted the total from 48-2 to 109 to put their side in a strong position.
However, they were the only two batters to offer any real resistance to the Middlesex attack and the team slumped to 146 all out, the last six wickets falling in the space of 18 runs.
It was a disappointing end to what has still been a successful season, with the team finishing in the second promotion place, just four points behind Middlesex.
Well done to Danni Warren, who is involved on the coaching side for both counties.
