Several changes for opening championship game

1 month ago By Dave Wright

Former Finchampstead paceman Gregory returns

With players unavailable, the Berkshire side shows several changes for the opening Unicorns Championship match of the season against Oxfordshire at Wargrave CC starting on Sunday, 11 am.
Thc changes have been forced by the fact that Jack Davies, Archie Carter, James Rogers, Joe Cracknell and Ethan Bamber are wanted by Middlesex 2nds while Wargrave's own Euan Woods and Tom Scriven are required by Hampshire 2nds and Tom Nugent has work commitments.
Former Finchampstead paceman Callum Gregory, who is on Gloucestershire's books, will be making his first championship appearance since July 2015 when he played against Devon at Finchampstead, having made his debut against the same county at Exmouth the previous year.
This week, the 21-year-old (pictured) from Reading was in the Gloucs side that won a high-scoring game by three wickets against Kent 2nds, taking 1-92 off 17 overs in the first innings and 1-10 off three in the second innings.
Left-handed batsman Brandon Gilmour played for Berkshire in the T20 matches against Buckinghamshire last month, having come up through the county's junior ranks. He has played for Gloucestershire 2nds, but more recently turned out for Sussex 2nds, including one game against Middx 2nds.
Michael Williams, Henley 1st X's talented young wicketkeeper, is included in the Berkshire squad, but Datchet's Joe Thomas is expected to don the gloves against Oxon.
Williams scored 44 for Berkshire 2nds against Isle of Wight this week, while Waqas Hussain made a tremendous 102 and Finchampstead's Greg Smith 59 as they won by eight wickets.
Andy Rishton was part of the Loughborough MCCU team that lost to Durham MCCU in the MCCU Challenge Final at Lord's on Wednesday.
He took 2-46 (both wickets in the same over) off 10 overs as Durham were bowled out for 213 but made only four before being stumped in Loughborough's reply of 170.

The 12 selected are
Waqas Hussain
Brandon Gilmour
Andy Rishton
Richard Morris
James Morris (capt)
Dan Lincoln
Joe Thomas
Chris Peploe
Ollie Birts
Callum Gregory
Ali Akbar
Michael Williams
