Geoffrey Clift passes away

1 month ago By Dave Wright

Sad news

Berkshire Cricket is saddened to record the death of Geoffrey A. Clift.
He was club president from 2001 to 2009, before handing over to current president Francis Neate, and was an honorary life member.
Earlier in his life, Geoffrey was also, along with Arthur Cuthbertson, managed and coached Berkshire Bantams and the Under-25 side.
The Bantams (under-19s) enjoyed their finest hour when winning the Hilda Overy Trophy, open to first-class and minor-counties teams, in 1974 with a side captained by 18-year-old Mark Simmons.
In his later years, Geoffrey kept in touch with Berkshire and attended the occasional game, driving himself up from his Gloucestershire home.
He died at the age of 98, so had certainly enjoyed a good innings.
His funeral service is to be held at Cheltenham Crematorium in Bouncers Lane, GL52 5JT, on Thursday, January 25th at 3.15pm.
