Berkshire 1st innings 424-7 (90 overs).
Devon 1st innings 54-6 (20.5 overs)
Berkshire aiming to make it 4 Championship wins in succession and 4 seasons without losing at home in the competition
Devon seeking first Championship win this year. They were the last team to beat Berkshire in Championship (played at Exmouth) and did knock holders Berkshire out of the Unicorns Trophy in June on way to reaching the final against Cheshire later this month.
Sweltering conditions at Falkland CC, so all credit to players and umpires David Browne and Geoff Callaway (but he's used to the heat as he is an Aussie!).
How an excellent day unfolded for Berkshire.
Waqas Hussain 192 off 247 balls; 2x6, 21x4.
(An absolute class performance from Waqas, producing some exquisite strokes. However, he was dropped at slip just before reaching his century).
Archie Carter 53 off 138 balls; 6x4.
Andy Rishton 40 off 58 balls; 1x6, 4x4.
James Morris 76 off 62 balls; 12x4.
Dan Lincoln 16 off 8 balls; 1x6, 1x4.
Joe Thomas 17 off 14 balls.
Stewart Davison 12 off 7 balls; 1x4.
Chris Peploe 6no off 7 balls.
Tom Nugent, Ollie Birts and Ali Raja (who received his county cap before the game) did not bat.
Morris, Thomas and Davison all run out as Berkshire went looking for quick runs in last 5 overs.
Hussain and Carter (both pictured taking to the field) put on 146 in 45 overs for the first wicket.
It then went 2-230 (66.2ov), 3-353 (82.3), 4-373 (84.2), 5-386 (85.6), 6-414 (88.3), 7-424 (89.6).
In reply, Devon were soon in trouble and finished the day in deep trouble at 54-6.
Opener George Allen made 13 and so far is the only batsman in double figures. Extras, 12, is next highest contributor
